What is an Enduring Guardianship?

An Enduring Guardianship is a legal document that gives a person the authority to make medical, health and lifestyle decisions for you. An Enduring Guardianship legally appoints a guardian chosen by you to make important decisions for you in the event you do not have the capacity to make decisions for yourself.

This includes:

  • Health services you may receive
  • Medical treatment and surgical services you may receive
  • Dental services you may receive
  • What services may be provided for you at home
  • Where you live including a nursing home or retirement village
  • Decisions for your end-of-life plan including life support decisions
  • Other lifestyle or personal decisions for services you may receive

You are able to revoke or cancel the appointment of your guardian or change the appointment so long as you have the capacity to do so. We also provide out of hours appointments should you need to consult a solicitor urgently. We can visit you at hospital, at home or nursing homes should you be unable to attend our offices.
