What is a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that gives a person or organisation the authority to manage your financial affairs and assets and make legal and financial decisions of your behalf. There are two types of Power of Attorney documents: A General Power of Attorney and an Enduring Power of Attorney.

A General Power of Attorney allows you to provide someone with the authority to make financial and legal decisions on your behalf while you have the capacity to make decisions for yourself. An Enduring Power of Attorney allows the person to continue making financial and legal decisions on your behalf even in the event you lose decision-making capacity.
